London Vocal Project

The London Vocal Project is one of the UK's leading contemporary vocal ensembles, specialising in jazz and groove music. Led by jazz composer and educator Pete Churchill, LVP is a vibrant community of performers.

In addition to performing at London venues including Ronnie Scotts, the 606 Club, Cadogan Hall, PIzza Express Jazz Club, here are some of the notable projects in which LVP have been involved:

Bobby McFerrin

LVP were chosen to perform the UK live premiere of Bobby McFerrin's choral album, VOCAbuLarieS. We worked with LA-based composer and producer Roger Treece to replicate the sound of the album, and performed alongside them at the Barbican, London.

ALBERT HERA

We have a long-standing relationship with Italian vocalist and circle song practitioner, Albert Hera. We'd been introduced to circle songs by Roger Treece and Bobby McFerrin, and when we met Albert at the London Acappella Festival, he immediately commandeered us for a performance. Since then, we have met up with him in Italy, and brought him to London for gigs and workshops.

We plan to bring him back to London in 2016.

Mirrors (Kenny Wheeler & Norma Winstone)

Pete had a long-standing relationship with Kenny, having championed his music and directed his big band for many years. In the 1990s, Pete was part of a small vocal group which performed a suite Kenny had written for voices.

In LVP, Pete had a group which could perform the suite, and we did so at the Vortex in Dalston, and at St James Piccadilly as part of the London Jazz Festival.

The suite was recorded in the summer of 2012, with Kenny contributing a new piece. Visit our page about the album here

In 2014, we performed a song from the suite at Kenny's memorial service

London A Cappella Festival, 2012

London A Cappella

In 2012, we performed as part of the London A Cappella Festival, curated by the Swingle Singers.

In 2014, we supported acclaimed vocal group New York Voices at the A Cappella Summer School, joining them and the Swingle Singers on stage for the finale.

Johnny Dankworth & Cleo Laine

LVP performed with the UK jazz legends at a London Jazz Festival gala event. We performed Johnny's arrangement of Blues in the Night, and backed Cleo and daughter Jacqui.

The concert was to be Johnny's last performance.

Since then, LVP have made several visits to the couple's venue the Stables, performing in the garden and at their annual Christmas celebration
