The London Vocal Project, directed by Pete Churchill is one of the UK's leading contemporary vocal ensembles, specialising in jazz and groove music. Formed in 2008 from graduates of London conservatoires, the 24-strong choir comprises singers, instrumentalists, composers and music educators. Their repertoire spans a huge breadth of genres, from jazz and popular music to gospel and groove.

Jazz At The Movies, a quintet of all – star jazz musicians, led on piano by Chris Ingham, with vocalist Joanna Eden and the saxophone/clarinet of Mark Crooks, have entertained jazz audiences for several years in major venues across the country. Their series of swinging Christmas music concerts have continuously sold out at Ronnie Scott’s and other leading Jazz venues, with their sophisticated and entertaining style.

London Vocal Project and Jazz At The Movies, will  perform many familiar and traditional Christmas melodies in their  distinctive and compelling styles whilst also bringing some original and less familiar music to open ears.

Led by jazz composer and educator Pete Churchill, LVP is a vibrant community of performers comprising professional singers, instrumentalists, composers and music educators. The Many Voices of Eve

This collaborative project unites two iconic and vibrant ensembles, The Printmakers – Nikki Iles’ all-star sextet featuring the great Norma Winstone MBE – and the London Vocal Project, the unique groove-based jazz choir directed by the inspirational Pete Churchill.

Together they will cook up a feast of newly-devised music placing women at the heart and the helm, bringing together the exceptionally lyrical output of Norma Winstone with the beguiling music of award-winning pianist/composer Nikki Iles.

For those familiar with the many different colours of the Printmakers’ music, this will be a rare opportunity to hear their sound re-framed by the extraordinary voices of the London Vocal Project.

We celebrate our 10th birthday with a concert at Kings Place.

The concert will feature favourites from LVP’s collaborations with Bobby McFerrin (performed in 2010 for Bobby’s VOCAbLaries album launch), Kenny Wheeler & Norma Winstone (for 2013’s album Mirrors), and Jon Hendricks (Jon’s complete lyricisation of the album Miles Ahead, premiered by LVP in 2017 first in New York, then at Kings Place)

The programme also includes music from Abdullah Ibrahim, Nikki Iles, Tim Whitehead and Pete Churchill, along with arrangements of classic jazz and groove tunes.

Come sing with LVP: join us before the concert for an afternoon workshop

Come sing with the London Vocal Project in a workshop led by musical director and internationally recognised choir leader Pete Churchill.

Before their 10th anniversary concert that evening, LVP are inviting you to come and sing with them.

Learn how LVP rehearses as Pete teaches songs from LVP’s repertoire, a selection of groove and jazz classics. Songs will be taught by ear, so no sight-singing skills are required. This workshop is open to all, from the novice to the experienced choir singer.

Pete Churchill is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He teaches and leads choirs on courses around the world. He is also an active jazz singer-pianist, and accompanist to jazz artists including Mark Murphy and Sheila Jordan.

LVP are proud to be part of a concert of our own MD Pete Churchill's Music, at the Royal Academy of Music as part of the London Jazz Festival.

As professor of composition at RAM, Pete has been asked to present a concert of his music, featuring the RAM big band, LVP and soloists Mishka Adams and Mark Lockheart.

The concert is at 4pm on Sunday 19 November, tickets are £7.50 and £5.50 concessions.

LVP make a return booking to the Cambridge Jazz Festival for 2017.

Our MD Pete Churchill will be leading a choir workshop, open to all, between 11am and 2.30pm. 

Then from 5pm LVP will be headlining a performance (supported by university a cappella group Cadenza and the CJF choir), featuring our favourite songs from our repertoire.

Following our performance in New York in February, LVP present the European premiere of Jon Hendricks' Miles Ahead, at Kings Place, London.

There will be an afternoon workshop session from 2pm-5pm, focusing on vocalese, through singing some of Jon's lyrics.

LVP return to Cambridge for a workshop on performance on Saturday 1st April 2017.

Singers can join the workshop at 2pm for Pete's singing and coaching session. Then, join together with the great London Vocal Project to sing the workshop songs and enjoy a full performance from LVP.

It is a unique chance to work with one of the country's finest educator/composer/jazz musician/choral experts, and his stunning group London Vocal Project, back by popular demand. This is a great chance to work with the London Vocal Project following their stunning performance in Cambridge in 2015.

LVP join the best of British jazz vocal talent to celebrate the life and music of legendary singer Mark Murphy.

We'll be featured alongside Ian Shaw, Gill Many, Anita Wardell and others, with a rhythm section of Andy Hamill, Mark Fletcher and our own Pete Churchill.

Each year, LVP spend a week rehearsing at Weycroft Hall, Devon.

As part of that week, we present a public concert featuring a  mix of jazz and groove tunes.

Pete Churchill & The London Vocal Project return to Cullompton this summer for another singing workshop and evening performance. 

Led by international choral director and educator, Pete Churchill, this half-day workshop is supported by members of the London Vocal Project. Together, Pete and LVP will create a positive learning environment for you to explore singing by ear and learning new repertoire quickly and with attention to groove, whilst giving you tools for developing individual and collective sound. You will be guided through fundamental techniques of groove-based group singing, and encouraged to sing out and be proud!

These workshops offer a fun and supportive environment for vocalists of all ages and abilities. Music is taught ‘by ear’, enabling the singers to focus on sound production and listening skills whilst creating a level platform for all attendees, regardless of their ability to read written notation.

The workshop will take place between 1.30 and 5.30. The London Vocal Project will be performing for you that evening at 7pm at the same venue. Workshop attendees will be invited to join us to perform the songs learned in the afternoon workshop. This ticket also admits the workshop attendee to the evening concert.

LVP present a mix of British jazz as part of the Cambridge Jazz Festival.

There will be a workshop with LVP earlier in the day (10:00am - 1:00pm) at St Mathew's Primary School and attendees will be invited to join LVP to perform the songs from the workshop at Great St. Mary's Church from 4pm.

In addition to the workshop performance, LVP will be singing a full gig of vocal jazz from their repertoire.

LVP return to the acclaimed basement club in Chelsea as part of the London Jazz Festival.

We'll be performing a wide range of jazz and groove. This is your only chance to hear us perform these tunes in London in 2015.

We'll be opening a concert in celebration of Kenny Wheeler, as part of the London Jazz Festival.

The concert is curated by Dave Holland, Norma Winstone and Evan Parker, and will feature many more friends and collaborators of Kenny. We'll be performing a couple of pieces from the Mirrors album.

We'll be opening Ian Shaw's benefit for refugees in Calais on Thursday 8th October at the Vortex, Dalston, performing two of Pete's originals particularly relevant to the cause.

It's an all-star line up including Liane Carroll, Carleen Anderson, Polly Gibbons, Sarah Jane Morris, Quentin Collins and comedian Jo Caulfield.

Following the workshop, LVP will present a full evening's performance, during which workshop attendees will be invited to perform what they have learnt.
